Welcome to LangIsland (the "Platform"), operated by the LangIsland team ("we," "us," or "our"). Before registering as a member or using our peer language learning, session reservation, and community interaction services (the "Services"), please read these Terms of Service carefully.
By completing registration, making a payment, or using the Services, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agreed to these Terms. If you do not agree with any part of these Terms, please stop using the Services immediately.
1. Acceptance and Changes to These Terms
- These Terms apply to all registered members and visitors of the Platform.
- We may amend or update these Terms at any time. Updated Terms become effective once posted on the Platform. We encourage you to review them regularly. Continued use of the Services after changes are posted means you agree to the updated Terms.
2. Member Registration, Account Security, and Privacy
- You agree to provide a valid email address and accurate account information upon registration. To align with our English-only environment, you may use an English name or nickname as your display name. However, for payment, billing, or dispute resolution purposes, you agree to provide true identity and billing information as required by the third-party payment gateway or the Platform.
- Your account and password are for your personal use only. You may not lend, transfer, sell, or share your account with others.
- You are responsible for keeping your account and password secure. All activities performed after login are deemed to be your own actions. We are not liable for losses caused by improper account management or unauthorized use due to your negligence.
- Personal information provided during registration or use of the Services will be protected and governed by our Privacy Policy.
3. Platform Services and Community Rules
LangIsland is a platform focused on peer learning and interaction. To maintain a positive learning environment, you agree to follow these rules:
- Punctual attendance: You should attend any reserved Session on time. Late arrivals may be unable to enter the Session, and the Session may still count toward your usage quota.
- English-only interaction: In designated English interaction Sessions, you agree to communicate in English throughout the Session, even when it feels challenging.
- Respect and inclusion: Maintain a friendly, respectful, and encouraging attitude. Verbal abuse, sexual harassment, discrimination, personal attacks, commercial advertising, political promotion, and unlawful statements are strictly prohibited.
- Recordings and learning outputs: For peer feedback and learning records, you agree to upload or provide practice recordings or related records as instructed by the Platform, including to build your activity record or help other islanders improve.
4. Intellectual Property
- The software, programs, web design, text, logos, graphics, learning materials, and overall structure used by the Platform are owned by us or the relevant rights holders and are protected by law. Without prior written authorization, no one may use, modify, reproduce, publicly transmit, adapt, distribute, publish, or reverse engineer them.
- You retain copyright ownership of original content and statements you post in platform interactions, discussion areas, or Sessions. However, you grant the Platform a free, worldwide license to reproduce, edit, publicly transmit, and use such content to the extent necessary for operating, promoting, and improving the Services.
5. Disclaimer and Service Suspension
- The Platform provides the Services on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We will use commercially reasonable efforts to maintain platform operations, but we do not guarantee that the Services will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, reliable, or error-free, including temporary server outages, network latency, or third-party video tool issues.
- We may suspend or interrupt all or part of the Services for system maintenance, upgrades, or force majeure events, including natural disasters, telecommunication outages, or cyberattacks. We are not liable for direct or indirect losses caused by such suspension or interruption.
6. Violations, Account Termination, and Governing Law
- If you violate these Terms, community rules, maliciously harass other islanders, or abuse the system, we may suspend, restrict, or terminate your account access without prior notice and without refunding any paid fees.
- These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of China (Taiwan).
- Any dispute arising from the Services or these Terms should first be resolved through good-faith negotiation. If litigation is necessary, both parties agree that the Taiwan Taipei District Court will be the court of first instance.
